WHAT IS SSL: If you do ecommerce or want to protect your web pages, SSL forms a secure channel between your clients browser and the server. You can use ssl to receive sensitive transmissions through a special URL of the form https://URL_HERE. (Note: not http, but https...representing SECURE) With SSL you can encrypt web pages on your site without any special programming of any kind. This is very useful for electronic commerce and for online sales.
To use SSL you must have a domain name, a website account with us, and a dedicated IP address (ask us about these), and you must have a SSL certificate. A SSL certificate is a registration which makes your SSL certificate work with your domain name on the web. They are purchased by the year just like domain names are. If you would like to use a SSL certificate from another provider, that is possible as well. Please contact us for information on installation and compability. Most SSL certificates will work on all servers.
NOTE WELL:
Because of negotiation and encryption overhead, connections through
the secure server can be slower than other connections and require
much for server processing;
thus it is not a good idea to serve your entire site in this fashion. You
should normally only use SSL for ordering sections or sections will potentially
important subject matter. You can easily link your normal account to pages
on the secure server.
