Saturn's
Rings is the story of one of the last cradles of humanity, trapped inside
an environmental bubble, called an archology, on the east coast of North
America. It is the story of the dreams and conflicts which take place
in a contained world where madness reigns supreme; where at any moment
the rings of political power inside the microcosm can snap and reshape
themselves; where dealing with terrors from outside and within are part
of the daily lifestyle of those that remain on a battered, desolate, death-filled
earth.
Everything is swallowed whole by a mysterious red gas, called metathorine,
which reproduces itself by swallowing life giving oxygen. All plant
and animal life on the surface of the earth are gone and a vast unlivable
desert, littered by the tops of battered skyscrapers and the tint of thick,
acidic red gas, is all that remains.
Before the death of earth, thirteen massive bastions of humanity were
constructed to preserve some of what mankind had accomplished. The
first of these was called the Saturn archology, named after the scientist
whom designed it. Decades after its construction, after the horror
that was the apocalypse, Saturn archology stands isolated from its twelve
sisters. But the isolation of the citizens of Saturn manifests itself
on many levels. The dome of the Saturn Archology is separated into
two sectors, completely cut off from one another. Above, the leaders
of the populous, called the Uppers, look down on their subjects secretly,
utilizing countless hidden portals to watch and listen. Their only
voice to the "normal" populous is called the Envoy, a fulcrum of sorts
whom relays orders and information between the two separate communities.
In a desperate effort, an unprecedented construction project called
Pandora is begun to re-establish contact with the other twelve archologies.
Seconds after completion that effort is destroyed by a mysterious core
meltdown which also takes the lives of two of Saturn's leaders (an Upper
and the all important Saturn Envoy), leaving the power structure of the
archology in total disarray. |
